San Angelo LIVE!, in partnership with Townsquare Media 960 AM KGKL, is hosting two debates for the City of San Angelo City Council and Police Chief. Climate Right Construction is the title sponsor.
The City Council debate will be held Tuesday, March 29.
The police chief debate will be held a week later, on Tuesday, April 5.
Our mission is to make both debates something memorable and offer an outstanding experience to everyone who participates. By doing so, we are working towards more interest, and a higher voter turnout for the city elections May 7. Here is how:
We chose the RiverView Restaurant overlooking the Concho River as the venue. Chef Carlos Estrada has promised to provide many of his most delicious appetizers.
Brandy Ramirez and myself will ask questions during the debate. KGKL’s Boomer Kingston will referee.
The debate will be broadcasted live on KGKL 650 AM. A podcast recording of the debate will be available for download soon afterwards on San Angelo LIVE! In addition, a video of the debate will be available on San Angelo LIVE! soon afterwards.
With the online and broadcast promotion, live broadcast, podcast, and online video, I anticipate at least 10,000 people in San Angelo will be exposed to all or portions of the debate. In last year’s mayoral election, 5,500 of 44,573 registered voters, or 12.34 percent participated. If we can move that number upward, this effort will be worth it.
At the conclusion of each debate, there will be a straw poll to determine the winner. The straw poll will be taken from those in attendance.
We have invited all of the candidates, and most have indicated they will participate.
A ticket to the event includes all-you-can-sample food, non-alcoholic refreshments, one straw poll ballot, and the best seats in the house. The number of tickets to each event are limited, and sold on a first come, first served basis.

What I would like to know is why "WE THE PEOPLE" are having to pay a fee in order to attend a debate hosted by those already on the "Payroll" paid by the citizens of San Angelo, TX? Is the City of San Angelo, TX, so desperate for funds that they have to stoop so low as to charge a fee for listening to those wanting to be a part of our City Government? This is really absurd and "WE THE PEOPLE" should not participate in this "raping" of our citizens! Citizens of San Angelo, TX stand up!
