Assault in Walmart Results in Vehicle Pursuit, One Officer Hospitalized

 

Early this morning at 12:25 a.m., San Angelo Police Department units were dispatched to an assault family violence in progress at 5501 Sherwood Way, also known as Walmart Supercenter.

While en route, SAPD learned that a handgun was shown during the assault. The suspect also fled the scene, and officers received a description of the vehicle.

SAPD attempted to make a traffic stop of the suspect's black Chevy Malibu, but the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

Sgt. Griffith said, “At the 2700 block of Sherwood Way, the vehicle came to a stop when colliding with a marked San Angelo Police car that was stopped.”

The pursuit terminated after the collision, and officers took the suspect, a 19-year-old while male, into custody.

Additionally, as a result of the collision, the officer in the police car was transported to a local hospital. No other information is available at this time on the officer's condition, but injuries appeared to be minor.

Sgt. Griffith said this is still an ongoing investigation, and more information will be provided when available.

The 19-year-old suspect arrested in this morning's assault and chase has been identified as David R. Salas. Mr. Salas was booked into the Tom Green County Jail at 5:36 a.m. this morning. He is charged with Possession of Marijuana and a Controlled Substance, Evading Arrest Detention, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Violence. Salas' bond is set at $2,000 total for possession of marijuana and the controlled substance, but no bond was set for the other charges.

Are you kidding me? $1,000 bond and an officer was injured! That sure seems low to me. But who knows with this 'good ole boy' justice we have in San Angelo. Almost nothing is fair nor consistent.

. Salas' bond is set at $2,000 total for possession of marijuana and the controlled substance, but no bond was set for the other charges....which means so far he has NO Bond on the more serious charges...calm down there
