Briana Esquivel, the San Angelo teen missing since Jan. 15, has returned home, San Angelo police confirmed Friday.
Esquivel, now 16, was 15 years old when she disappeared from her home a 4 a.m. A handwritten note was left behind indicating that she was running away said Esquivel’s mother, Savina Garcia at the time.
A second letter was sent via postal mail to KIDY on-air personality Kendra McNamara in May. KIDY exploited the mother May 5, refusing to give the letter to the mother until she agreed to an uncomfortable, tearful on-air interview where the KIDY reporter read to the mother what was suspected to be Briana’s letter to her mom. The letter, that SAPD handwriting analysis later confirmed was written by the same person who left the first note Jan. 15, accused the mother of providing a less than ideal home life for her daughter, a charge the mother denied. More on the second letter here.
Savina Garcia and I sat down earlier this afternoon to discuss the contents of a letter possibly written by her missing...

San Angelo police investigators continued to work the case, but Lt. David Howard said in September that police did not suspect foul play. Brianna was considered an endangered runaway because of her age.

Now stick her in juvenile lockup until she's 21 for wasting everyone's time and resources.......

PermalinkI smell a rat here , sure the kid needs some type of punishment , but where are the other participants . There was definitely some serious law breaking here , lets start with kidnapping , harboring a runaway , sex with a minor , these are just a few charges that can be filed against those who assisted her . Children need to be made aware that their are consequences for their actions , as well as for the people who assist them . This is not a game , she could have ended up very dead or worse .

PermalinkIf indeed Ms. McNamara manipulated this woman into discussing the letter only on camera, she is guilty of the same crimes the vermin who thrust cameras in the face of victims' families do on TV. Heaven forbid the media, under the disguise of promulgating the facts of horrific situations, should show any compassion or simple common sense.
I despise these people.

PermalinkThank God she came back safe and sound. We all make mistakes, young or old. I hope she won't let this hinder her in anyway. She needs to get back in school, and enjoy the rest of her teen years.

PermalinkThis is definitely a case that needs to be investigated thoroughly . Too much man power and resources have been used . There is a reason why teenagers runaway , it may be a discipline problem , real parental abuse , a simple disagreement , or simply teen rebellion . Whatever the reason , someone needs to look into this . I just watched one of those specials on television about a girl who kept leaving her home only to be prostituted by her so called boyfriend . Unfortunately she ended up murdered . She was only sixteen years old .
