A Central teacher’s aide, Monica Lyin Way, 43, was arrested Tuesday afternoon for an improper relationship with a student at Central High School. As of 8 p.m., the local paper reported that the suspect was under interrogation.
Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said yesterday, Officer T. Lopez, while working off duty security at Central, was informed by the school administration about the inappropriate relationship. Apparently, the mother of an 18-year-old male student spoke with administrators about her concern of a possible relationship between Way and her son.
"The mother became concerned after reading text message conversations between Way and her son on her son's cell phone," Solsbery stated.
Solsbery added that Detective Jeremy Cannady responded to Central High School to conduct the investigation of the allegation. He learned Way did indeed have a sexual relationship with the 18-year-old student.
After the investigation, Detective Cannady applied for a warrant to arrest Way for Improper Relationship between Educator and Student. Way turned herself in on the warrant at 5:38 a.m. this morning at the Tom Green County Jail. She is being held without bond.
Based on this relationship, the San Angelo Independent School District also took swift action once news was received about the incident.
Jamie Highsmith, public information officer for the San Angelo Independent School District, said, “SAISD received information regarding the possibility of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher’s aide and a student. Subsequently, the employee was terminated and the investigation turned over to San Angelo Police Department.”
According to the Texas Penal Code 21.12: Improper relationship between educator and student, if an educator engages in sexual contact, sexual intercourse, or deviates sexual intercourse with a person who is enrolled in a public or private primary or secondary school at which the employee works, the individual will be charged with a 3rd degree felony.

reminds me of that chs tennis coach who taught for years there charged a few years ago with--i think--possessing pornography or guilty of setting up a camera somewhere, etc. He was arrested, etc. and investigated--but seems like local news never followed up on the case. Why is that?

PermalinkWhat is really sick is what the DA's office will do with this. Both McCrea's and Palmer's haunts need to be fumigated.
