The physician who performed emergency surgery on a San Angelo firefighter who fell through a ceiling Monday morning while fighting a house fire is optimistic he will make a full recovery, the City of San Angelo said in a press release.
Bound by HIPAA rules, the City cannot release the firefighter’s name, but other sources have confirmed that he is Todd Sanford, a captain with the San Angelo Fire Department.
The City said that San Angelo Fire Department Assistant Chief Scott Farris visited Sanford this morning and said he was in good spirits and out of his hospital bed, sitting in a chair.
Sanford was injured while cooling hotspots in an attic at 2451 Baylor St. early Monday – ensuring an extinguished blaze didn’t reignite – when he fell through the ceiling, landing one story below. He was wearing full bunker gear at the time.
An ambulance rushed him to Shannon Medical Center, where he was taken into emergency surgery about 7 a.m.
