A Child Hit by Vehicle on Woodlawn Succumbs to Injuries

At 5:19 p.m. Sunday evening, San Angelo Police were called to the 3100 block of Woodlawn Drive in San Angelo after a female driver of a white Ford Explorer struck an 8-year-old boy riding his scooter in the street, said Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for SAPD.

Sgt. Solsbery said the 41-year-old woman was driving westbound on Woodlawn. She failed to see the boy because of the sun's location in the sky, which temporarily affected her vision.

“It was just an unfortunate accident,” Solsbery stated. “[The child] was transported to Shannon with incapacitating injuries, and he succumbed to those injuries at Shannon.”

Solsbery said at this time, police don’t suspect alcohol or intoxication as a factor in this incident. He also said no citations have been issued since the incident is still under investigation.
