High Speed Chase Leads to On-Foot Manhunt in North San Angelo

At approximately 5:18 p.m., San Angelo Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a silver, 2012 Dodge Charger that was traveling approximately 58 MPH in a 40 MPH zone, according to a SAPD press release.

The officer caught up to the vehicle on U.S. HWY 87 near the YMCA and activated the patrol vehicle's overhead emergency lights and sirens, however; the driver refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

 The fleeing suspect continued traveling northbound on U.S. 87 at increasing speeds and made several dangerous maneuvers in an attempt to evade the officer, narrowly missing a vehicle that was turning at southbound Bryant and 6th Street.

During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle attempted to turn onto W. 11th Street, and as a result of a wide right turn, collided with a 2002 Ford Mustang that was stopped at a stop sign.  The driver of the Charger did not stop to render aid to the occupants and continued to flee.  The Mustang's  three occupants were not injured during the collision.

Officers observed the suspect's vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at 11th Street and Martin Luther King Drive.  The officer stopped for the stop sign, and when it was clear to proceed, continued to pursue the suspect vehicle before losing sight of the Charger near the area of 12th and N. Farr Street. The Charger was soon located abandoned in the 200 block of W.12th Street.  Although officers never saw the driver's face during the pursuit, witnesses at the scene told officers they saw a Hispanic male run from the vehicle.

A perimeter was established and the surrounding area was searched but the suspect was never located. 

Investigators have identified a 26-year-old male as the suspect, but his name is not being released due to the ongoing investigation.  SAPD believes that the suspect fled due to outstanding Felony Warrants.
