A 69-Year-Old San Angelo Man is Shot During a Home Invasion

A 69-year-old Hispanic male is recovering at Shannon Hospital today after being shot at his home on Monday, August 31, after an assailant burglarized his home, said Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer with the San Angelo Police Department.

Solsbery said at 4:07 a.m., SAPD responded to an assault call in the 500 block of N. Sellers St. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim had been shot. At the scene, responding officers administered first aid until Fire Department personnel arrived. The victim was transported and admitted to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries. Solsbery said the victim’s condition is unknown, and SAPD is not releasing the man’s name at this time.

During the investigation, SAPD officials identified Fernando Lavaris Jr, 29, as a suspect in the offense. Members of Special Operations Section and Patrol located Lavaris after a traffic stop conducted at approximately 3:45 p.m. in the 400 block of S. Oakes. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Solsbery stated that Lavaris was transported to the Tom Green County Jail where he was charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit a Felony. Lavaris also had an outstanding parole violation warrant. Other charges against Lavaris are pending further investigation.

Detective James Hernandez and Detective Jason Chegwidden are currently investigating this case. There is no other information available for release at this time.

I guess Lavaris hasn't learned how to function in society yet. This time he will be removed from it for a long time.

Ok km Mitchell.... What is your point in bringing that up?? Now stop and think....if they just put down (a 69 year old male) you would probably have a comment about that!! Don't try to start something that is totally uncalled for.

I was not trying to start something. I still don't see the need to identify someone by race unless they are a suspect in a crime. How often do you see articles that say, white male injured in car accident? black man injured in fire? js.
