Crash on Interstate 20 Leaves One Dead

A Pecos woman was pronounced dead Wednesday night after colliding with another vehicle on Interstate 20, approximately 6 miles west of Toyah, said Elena M. Viramontes with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The woman, Sylvia Gallegos, 49, was travelling eastbound on IH-20 at approximately 9:19 p.m. in a 2007 Saturn when she drove off the left side of the roadway, over corrected to the right and entered into a side skid to the left across the center median into the westbound lane striking a semi-trailer truck driven by Marco Antonio Callejas, 30, of El Paso, Texas. The driver of the semi then skidded off the left side of the roadway across the median and eastbound lanes before coming to rest in a ditch on the south side of the highway.

Justice of the Peace Riley later declared Gallegos deceased, and Callejas was treated and released on scene, Viramontes said. Both drivers wore seatbelts, and officials said road and weather conditions were dry and clear. The scene was investigated by Texas Highway Patrol, and next of kin have been notified.

Gotta love those cell phones, worth more than your life....but I'm sure that's wasn't what happened, most likely environmental, or something completely by accident.
