Aggravated Assault Suspect Shoots Two Texas Highway Patrol Sergeants in Odessa

Two injured Texas Highway Patrol sergeants with the Department of Public Safety, Chad Matlock and Michael Thomas, are undergoing treatment at Odessa Medical Center for injuries incurred during a gunfire exchange with Roger Dean Shull Jr., 24, an armed and wanted suspect in the Odessa area from Monahans, Texas.

At approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, DPS Texas Highway Patrol personnel were assisting Texas rangers and the Ward County Sheriff’s Office in tracking Shull, who was located at the Phillips 66 gas station between 42nd and Andrews Highway in Odessa.

According to the preliminary investigation, Shull and DPS personnel exchanged gunfire after officers confronted the suspect. One of the sergeants was shot in the leg and chest, but body armor provided a level of protection. The second sergeant was struck in the arm.

Shull, who was wanted for aggravated assault out of Ward county, is deceased. Both Matlock and Thomas were reported as being in "fair condition."

The Texas Rangers and Odessa Police Department are investigating this incident.

When I saw the smug shot I thought he was in custody. But thankfully he is in a morgue not being so smug.

One less idiot to worry about costing the state and taxpayers money to incarcerate. Thanks!!
