Moving On Up! Veteran's County Services Office Gets Scenery Change

The Veteran's County Service Office located in the Judge Edd B. Keyes building downtown will soon be relocating to a better-suited environment in the Texas Workforce Solutions Building at 202 Henry O. Flipper St.

Renovations are currently taking place at the Keyes building, which requires a change in venue for some offices housed there.

At Tuesday morning's commissioner's court meeting, issues in dealing with the ongoing construction and remodeling projects at the Keyes building was discussed among members. Mike Buck, Executive Director of West Texas Workforce Solutions, was in attendance.

"About four to six weeks ago, it was brought to my attention by Kathy Ballard ( Director of Planning at TWC here) that the Veteran's County Service Office was going to have to temporarily relocate for a few months while the renovations were taking place. She suggested that we give them a permanent home in our facility ."

Since the Workforce center already provides services specific to veterans,  "It would be a marriage made in heaven," Buck related.

The Texas Workforce Solutions currently provides employment services geared towards veterans through the Texas Veteran's Commission, which is in the same office.

"Judge Steve Floyd and Laura Serrano (Director of Veteran's Services) have visited the space that would be designated for their use. And all parties agreed it would be in Veteran's best interest." Buck adds.

The commissioner's court agreed, as reflected in a unanimous decision, to approve Ballard's shared space idea. While the time of the move is presently unknown, the wheels have been set in motion, moving forward in pursuit of giving back and serving those who have served us so well.

The move to the TWC building will be great for veterans and the VSO staff!

We as vet's love the job Director Laura Serrano and her staff are doing and feel like something gets accomplished when we leave their office. The recent move of Jan Lentz, social worker, to the TVC office was another great step in providing top-notch service.
