Sheriff's Office Busts Five Suspected Meth Dealers

Five suspected local drug dealers were put behind bars over the weekend as part of an undercover drug investigation orchestrated by the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff David Jones relayed that the operation began on Thursday morning, when investigators conducted surveillance on 23-year-old Mark Crawley, who was wanted for a parole violation. After executing a search warrant on the suspect, investigators located 10 grams of methamphetamine and transported Crawley to the county jail.

The operation continued on Friday night, as detectives closed in on four more suspected dealers within city limits who were located with approximately an ounce of meth between them, Sheriff Jones said.

The four individuals include 46-year-old Cort Wynn Harrison, 33-year-old James Lee Knight, 26-year-old Virginia Ann Lara and 26-year-old Deanna Kay Weeaks. All four were booked into the jail between 11:47 p.m. Friday and 12:11 a.m. Saturday on one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance PG1, >/= 4 grams<200grams, a first-degree felony.

The drug investigation is ongoing, Sheriff Jones said, adding, “We are continually doing what we can to eliminate the drugs in our community.”

A first-degree felony is punishable by 5-99 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $10k.
