A Driver was Inbound to San Angelo on U.S. 87 and This is What Happened

A late model smaller SUV was driving north on U.S. 87 at the speed of the traffic, approximately 50 or 60 mph. The SUV hit a patch of ice, slid slightly off the roadway and hit a culvert.

As the front tire dug into the shear wall the culvert’s pipe made, the SUV flipped end-over-end and came to a rest off the right side of the northbound lanes.

Wall VFD, San Angelo EMS and the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department responded.

Luckily, both occupants of the SUV were uninjured, just shaken up. The SUV was towed to the wrecking yard.

Ice is forming on the roadways in insidious ways and drivers may not see it. Black ice was evident everywhere at the crash scene. Our photographer almost slipped and fell getting these pictures.

The crash happened at 10 a.m. on U.S. 87 near the intersection with Roberts Road.

Thank goodness these folks were okay. No doubt they had their seat belts on. Slow down people.
