About Last Night's Stabbing at a Popular San Angelo Bar

A man was stabbed at Fiddlestrings Sports Bar, 3301 Arden Road, early this morning at 12:15 a.m. That is what the radio said as police rushed to the popular watering hole.

Upon our arrival, we saw a sizable crowd in the parking lot. An ambulance had just sped off with lights and sirens blaring.

San Angelo Police Sgt. Medley said that police were dispatched to an aggravated assault incident, a stabbing, that occurred in an altercation between two males on the bar’s premises. He said further details were pending the outcome of the investigation. The police Criminal Investigations Division (CID) joined the investigation, gathering forensic and other evidence from the scene.

Over the radio, police dispatch said that the victim was a male in his 30s.

Fiddlestrings is a very popular bar in San Angelo that attracts a large customer base, and is usually ranked near the top of our monthly Top Bars of San Angelo rankings based upon gross sales of alcohol. Yet, incidents like this at Fiddlestrings are rare.

According to State of Texas records, the last Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) violation at the bar was in 2010 when authorities alleged that they observed intoxicated wait staff there, and that alcohol was served to an intoxicated person.

I talked to the city PIO Anthony Wilson a couple of weeks ago. He said that that the project was very much on track. With the holidays and all, they were trying to find a good time to have a celebration and grand opening. He said to expect an announcement soon. --Joe
