Woman Injured After Being Hit by Car in Mall Parking Lot

A woman was hit by a vehicle in the Sunset Mall parking lot Monday afternoon and transported to the hospital by ambulance for injuries sustained in the accident.

An eyewitness on scene said that the young male driver was cruising along talking on his cell phone and apparently did not notice the woman near the mall's south entrance. He then proceeded to run into the woman, causing injury.

The traffic investigator left the scene before media could obtain a statement, and therefore could not corroborate the witness' account or provide information as to the extent of the woman's injuries.

Update 4:45 p.m. Nov. 18

Investigating officer Byrne stated that the driver at the accident, a 21-year-old male, said he simply did not see the woman walking in front of his car.

She was hit and landed on the hood, he said, then rolled off the passenger side and sustained cuts and abrasions. She is 55 years old.

This is one of the BIG reasons cell phone use should be against the law. Young, old and everyone in between pay more attention to the phone conversation than watching there driving.
