PLYMOUTH, MA — The jury in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial on Wednesday told the judge for a second time that it can’t agree on a verdict.
Judge William Sullivan sent the jury back for more deliberations after giving them a standard, legally required instruction intended to prod them to keep discussing a possible verdict. The jury is on its fifth day of deliberations.
Clancy, 36, a former labor and delivery nurse in Massachusetts, doesn’t deny strangling her three children in their home in 2023. But her attorney argues that postpartum psychosis led to her actions. Prosecutors say she knew what she was doing.
Two of Clancy's children were 5 and 3 years old, while another was an 8-month-old baby.
The case has garnered national interest with many believing she should be held responsible for the deaths of her children, even if she was mentally ill and on numerous medications while dealing with postpartum depression.
Others have rallied around Clancy, saying the system failed her and that her mental health left her unable to control her actions. Some have even accused her husband of the crime, though Clancy has admitted she killed her children before jumping out of a window, which left her paralyzed from the waist down.
If the jury is unable to reach a unanimous verdict, the judge would likely declare a mistrial, and prosecutors would then have to determine whether to put Clancy on trial again, attempt to negotiate a plea deal, or drop the charges.

Just imagine, dear reader, how many times your mom thought about killing you—but didn't—simply because of social opprobrium. Most women enact violence by proxy, but when it comes to children, the elderly, and the infirm, a woman will use her bare hands.
"For the female of the species is more deadly than the male..."
