San Angelo ISD Approves $1,000 One-Time Stipend For All Employees in 2026-27

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a one-time $1,000 insurance supplement for all employees Monday as part of its 2026-27 compensation plan, choosing not to permanently increase the district’s contribution to employee health insurance. 

The board voted 5-0 to keep the district’s monthly health insurance contribution at the current level of $479 per employee while providing the $1,000 stipend. Administration will determine the timing and parameters for distributing the stipend. 

The decision came as the board considered compensation recommendations that included continuing Year 2 implementation of House Bill 2 teacher salary increases and responding to findings from a TASB salary study. The board had also reviewed a proposal to raise the district’s health insurance contribution from $479 to $500 per month per qualifying employee, along with options for a health insurance supplement. 

Board members said the $1,000 stipend would provide support to all employees during a projected deficit budget year caused by declining student enrollment, without creating a recurring cost to the district. 

The board ultimately selected the option that maintained the current insurance contribution while providing the larger one-time payment rather than raising the monthly contribution.
