Former Educator Arrested in Child Exploitation Case

ABILENE, TX — A former educator from Abilene was arrested Friday on a federal charge of accessing child pornography, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Investigators with DPS’s Criminal Investigations Division, in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations, arrested Robert Jerome Custer, 56. Authorities said Custer previously worked as an educator and counselor in Palestine, Barksdale, Kingsville and Abilene, but was not employed in that role at the time of his arrest.

Investigators are seeking information from potential unreported victims during Custer’s time as a teacher or camp counselor. Anyone with information is urged to contact the DPS Criminal Investigations Division office in Abilene at 325-795-4070.

The case remains under investigation, and no further information has been released.
