SAN ANGELO, TX — Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the San Angelo area Thursday, with some storms potentially becoming strong but mostly remaining below severe limits, according to the National Weather Service.
A radar update at 7:45 a.m. showed storms entering the western counties of West Central Texas. Forecasters warned that the main hazard on Thursday morning is dangerous lightning. The weather service said San Angelo should see rain and lightning.
“Shower and storm coverage is expected to increase (primarily for the southern half of our area) this afternoon,” the NWS stated. “Storms should mainly stay sub severe, but a few could become strong to severe.”
Highs are expected to remain in the mid to upper 70s Thursday, with northeast winds between 5 and 10 mph. The weather service said showers and storms will be most likely from the Concho Valley southward into the northern Edwards Plateau.
Dry and pleasant weather is expected this weekend, but temperatures will climb sharply next week. Forecast highs in San Angelo are projected to reach 99°F by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Good one Lucas. Sub severe generally refers to a medical condition. In weather terms, it is a little used word that refers to hail being less than 1 inch in diameter (>25 mm).
So what happens if storms become “severe”? NWS has covered themselves just in case: “Storms should mainly stay sub severe, but a few could become strong to severe.”
