Texas Woman Shoots Armed Intruder Trying to Force Entry into Home

DESOTO, TX – A Texas woman shot a 35-year-old man attempting to enter her home Friday night after he followed her from a nearby Taco Bell, police said.

DeSoto Police responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 400 block of Raintree Circle just before 8 p.m. The woman, who was not identified, told police she noticed a dark truck tailing her vehicle before it parked behind her in her driveway. Moments later, she called 911, reporting an unknown man in her backyard with a pistol.

During the emergency call, dispatchers could hear the woman screaming as the man tried to break into her home through the garage. Neighbors also reported hearing gunshots around the same time, according to police.

Officers arrived within three minutes and found the woman outside her home. She informed them she had shot the intruder “somewhere at the back of the house.” Inside the garage, police discovered Octavio Flores Mondragon, 35, on the ground with a pistol nearby. He had been shot once in the face and once in the chest and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Mondragon faces charges of first-degree burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony. Investigators have not disclosed a potential motive for the attempted intrusion.
