SAN ANGELO, TX — The Big Lots location in San Angelo has confirmed it is closing and offering discounts of up to 20% off for everything in the store.
San Angelo's Big Lots, located at 4002 Sunset Drive, is among the 56 additional stores that the discount retailer plans to close, as part of its ongoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.
Big Lots, which filed for bankruptcy in September, has been incrementally adding more stores to its closure list, bringing the total number of locations affected to over 300.
The company has reached an agreement to be acquired by Nexus Capital Management, pending any higher bids from other firms. Currently, the retailer operates 1,145 stores across the U.S., but many are in the process of conducting storewide closing sales.
The latest closures, detailed in a legal filing on Friday, include locations in Texas, such as San Angelo, Cedar Park, and Spring. Other states with closures include California, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Some stores from previous lists have already shut their doors, while others are finalizing sales.
Big Lots continues to update its closure list as part of its restructuring efforts, with Nexus Capital poised to purchase the company.

Can you clarify the parallels between our economic development efforts and those of Abilene's city leaders and economic development board, considering Red Lobster, Hooters, and Big Lots have closed here, yet remain open in Abilene?
The citizens of this city cannot afford any more taxes to support local city - county raises based on comparisons against other cities.
San Angelo is not comparable.
