LAS VEGAS, NV — Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Baby was arrested early Monday in Las Vegas after police accused him of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The 29-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dominique Jones, was taken into custody on the Las Vegas Strip just before dawn. Although Jones has a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon in Georgia, details surrounding his arrest were not immediately disclosed by authorities.
Lil Baby has not been formally charged, which would be a felony in Nevada. Reports state that he was released after posting bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 1 in Las Vegas.
Lil Baby, an Atlanta native, rose to fame with his 2020 album “My Turn,” which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. His hit single “The Bigger Picture” highlighted issues of police brutality. He also won best male hip-hop artist at the 2021 BET Awards and was named artist of the year at the 2020 Apple Music Awards.
