Heavy Rainfall and Flash Flooding Expected

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - The National Weather Service in San Angelo has released an excessive rainfall outlook for West Central Texas, forecasting heavy thunderstorms and potential flash flooding starting this afternoon and continuing into the evening.

Rainfall amounts are expected to range from half an inch to one inch, with localized higher amounts possible during the strongest storms.

The potential hazards include heavy rainfall sufficient to cause flash flooding in streets, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. Residents are advised to be vigilant and avoid driving onto roadways covered in water.

The likelihood of receiving at least one inch of rain from Sunday through Wednesday morning varies across the region. Areas south of Interstate 20 have the highest probability, ranging from 70% to 80%, while other areas have probabilities between 30% and 60%. The threat of heavy rainfall will persist through midweek.

The National Weather Service also released a detailed forecast of precipitation probabilities for the week. Cities such as Brady, Junction, and Ozona have a 70% to 80% chance of rain from Monday to Tuesday, with lesser chances later in the week. San Angelo has a 70% chance of rain on Monday and 60% on Tuesday, decreasing to 45% on Wednesday and 30% on Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to be cooler this week, with highs in the mid to upper 80s to lower 90s, below the normal highs of 97°F for Abilene and 98°F for San Angelo.

Monday and Tuesday, we will see numerous showers and thunderstorms, with possible heavy rain accompanied by elevated impacts. Morning lows will range from the upper 60s to lower 70s, with afternoon highs in the lower to mid-80s. Winds will be light, from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph.

From Wednesday to Friday, there will be scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms, with minimal impacts expected. Morning lows will be in the upper 60s, and afternoon highs will reach the mid-80s to lower 90s.
