SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Police Department released information Wednesday regarding their detective who was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Information released states that on Monday, July 8, 2024, former Detective James Hernandez resigned after 17 years with SAPD.
Hernandez was arrested July 5 for driving while intoxicated and was released later that same day.
The traffic stop was conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Hernandez was off duty at the time.
The incident prompted an immediate internal review, according to the release.
"The San Angelo Police Department takes such matters very seriously, and the actions of one officer do not reflect the values or conduct of the department or its other officers," the release stated. "The department remains committed to transparency and accountability."

Smart move asking the drunk cop to resign for his SECOND dui. Albeit firing him makes more of an impact because now he can go get a job in a different city as a cop. Oh what irony
