ABILENE, TX — A 61-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a train in Abilene on Thursday, July 4, 2024, according to the Abilene Police Department.
The incident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of 1st Street and Ruby Street.
The victim was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene with potentially life-threatening injuries, according to the APD.
No other information was released at the time.
A 30-year-old man was killed in Abilene in June after also being struck by a train.

Union Pacific freight trains are required by the city to pass through Abilene at between forty and sixty miles per hour. The trains are over a mile long and might be able to stop in that distance. If they hit an automobile at that speed it would be like a bug hitting your windshield. I don't know how he lived through it.
