Second Woman Involved in Fatal Stabbing Arrested

SAN ANGELO, TX — The second woman implicated in the fatal stabbing of Jermaine Lamar Johnson. The woman we previously and erroneously reported sought by authorities was discovered already incarcerated in Tarrant County Jail.

Shevetra Mathis, 25, was initially detained by San Angelo police on December 27, 2023, on charges of Hindering the Apprehension of a Known Felon, based on a Tarrant County warrant. The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office website now lists an additional warrant for Murder in Tom Green County, issued on January 4, 2024.

Over the weekend, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Ebony Gasca for the murder of Jermaine Johnson, her boyfriend. According to Gasca's account, the fatal night involved a heated argument between her, Mathis, and Johnson, which escalated into a physical altercation. Gasca allegedly stabbed Johnson, who later died of his injuries at Shannon Medical Center.

Court documents reveal that Gasca and Johnson were at a residence on the 300 block of West 13th Street when their verbal dispute turned violent. Gasca alleges that Johnson had her in a chokehold, prompting her to stab him with a makeshift knife she referred to as her “prison shank”.

During the altercation, Shevetra Mathis, 25, intervened. Mathis, who is currently detained in Fort Worth, reportedly emerged from the house and also stabbed Johnson. In her statement to investigators, Mathis admitted to grabbing a knife from inside the residence, rushing outside to assist Gasca, and stabbing the victim in the chest. She also confessed to not contacting law enforcement following the incident.
