SAN ANGELO, TX — If you cannot climb multiple flights of stairs up four stories to arrive at the San Angelo City Manager's office suites, you may not be able to petition your grievances there. At least the City of San Angelo is warning citizens that an arduous climb to the leadership suite at City Hall is necessary because the elevator is broken down.
City Hall words the calamity nicer. They said, "The elevators at City Hall are temporarily out of service for at least two weeks due to a maintenance issue."
The City further advises that if you are unable access a department at City Hall because you're unable to climb the stairs, you need to make arrangements to meet on the ground level with whomever you are meeting. Or, you can await the fix to the elevator.
"We apologize for any inconvenience," the City stated in an announcement.
All public board meetings that were scheduled to be held at City Hall have been moved to the McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive, so that everyone will have access to the meeting.
The broken-down elevator at City Hall should come with a furious reaction from city council that spent most of 2023 demanding strict ADA compliance for every building permit all the while raising city taxes. But if you do not hear a peep out of the ADA choir, it should be a reminder that there are 'rules for thee but not for me' when government is involved.
Let us hope the elevator is fixed in a timely fashion. Two more weeks! Have we heard that one before?
For the humorless angry social justice advocates in San Angelo, please recognize we did not call anyone "fat" in this article.

It's like someone in city hall wants to be pummeled by a sumo wrestler.
