SAN ANGELO, TX — A tragic scene unfolded this morning at the San Angelo City Hall Annex, located between Abe St. and Koenigheim, where a homeless man, known locally as "Andy," was found deceased on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Initial assessments by the police suggest the cause of death to be natural causes.
A passerby, who was driving along W. Beauregard Ave, noticed Andy lying motionless on the ground, adjacent to a pile of blankets, on the side of the Annex facing Goodyear. "He was lying there without any cover, his blankets scattered beside him. He also had a visible wound on his head," the witness recounted.
A local store employee mentioned that Andy had already had that injury before he apparently passed away.
The witness attempted to rouse Andy, only to find him unresponsive, cold, and stiff.
Police have identified the deceased as a 63-year-old man. While an investigation is underway and an autopsy has been scheduled, authorities currently do not suspect any foul play.
"The preliminary indication is that he died of natural causes," Officer Richard Espinoza, a spokesperson for the San Angelo Police Department (SAPD), stated.

Should be a wake up call for COSA. Seems like he was trying to make a statement with his sacrifice. Dying on the steps of the city hall, rather than in a secluded area. I wonder how many city employees seen him there and how many offered to help? Even give advice about where he can go to stay warm?

PermalinkI doubt that is the case. City employees went home Friday and will not return until tomorrow, so I doubt he was even around......who knows ?...

PermalinkAnd the County jail just a block away could house , shelter and feed all the homeless.................. but as usual the city and county has higher priorities !

PermalinkBetter yet would be the spacious confines of the walls of the Eden detention center. He would have had 3 hot meals a day and a cot to sleep on—free of charge. More importantly, he would have found companionship with his fellow residents. Less miserly states would have even provided life-saving, gender affirming transitional medication and surgery should that companionship have become serious enough.
Yet, now the precious protein of a fellow citizen goes to waste, providing no sustenance to anyone and handled, dissected and stored at a cost. What might have been salvaged of his vital organs is beyond consideration, not to mention that his precious water, which had saturated his entire body, was carelessly allowed to evaporate away into the driest of skies and now serves no benefit to the community.
At this loss of water, let us pray, earnestly and with our weapons held high to the sky, that Crom will help us to fathom the Riddle of Steel before we die. Let us pray that we solve it before our bodily protein is reappropriated by the community along with our water. I pray that I solve this riddle before all of you, that I may see that your waters are put to the most efficient uses...
