SAN ANGELO, TX — The intersection of College Hills Boulevard and Sunset Drive, which has been closed due to heavy construction for the past few months, is now open. New traffic lights have not yet been installed, but four-way stop signs are in place so the intersection can be used.
Check out the video footage of the intersection below:
Previously, a detour around the intersection slowed traffic to a crawl. Cars had to weave around the parking lot at Market Street to continue down College Hills. Parts of Sunset Drive were also inaccessible without detours. These issues are no longer present as the new concrete is present and the intersection is open.
The ongoing construction work on College Hills continues, but the City of San Angelo is one step closer to finishing the project. The street renovation is part of a multi-year plan by the City of San Angelo to upgrade the street surfaces. The plan began with MLK Blvd in 2017. The Bell Street project was recently completed. Here are the current street projects now underway inside the city limits:
- College Hills from Loop 306 to Avenue N $32.6 million
- Temporary four-way stop installed on Chadbourne
- S. A&M Avenue paving project - Cost $1.01 million
- Howard Street from Glenna South to Sherwood Way project $7.3 million
- N Chadbourne St. from Loop 306 north to 43rd St. $6.2 million
- Jackson Street: Knickerbocker to Railroad tracks $4.2 million
- Oakes Street Bridge repair - TxDOT is completing this and the cost is out of the State budget.
- Southwest Boulevard $7.04 million

I finally got brave enough to go down College Hills yesterday! I was amazed ! I never knew such a poor construction job could take so long,All the lanes are different heights with pot holes already forming. Is the City inspector a graduate of the Ray Charles University of Road Inspections ?

PermalinkThere's a startup company looking to invest in offering tours of San Angelo's deep valleys and canyons which focuses exclusively on the territories of its well established potholes.
This will open up a new avenue of revenue for the city with tourists coming from around the world to engage in activities similar to rock climbing or spelunking. They'll even offer canoeing when the rain permits!
There's a plan in place for this city, brother. Trust it!
