SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has been arrested for sexually assaulting an underaged girl after plying her with meth.
Thomas Thornton, 34, has been arrested for Sexual Assault of a Child.
According to court documents, a report was filed with the San Angelo Police Department but a family member pleaded with officers not to pursue charges. The case was then brought to the attention of the San Antonio Police Department.
On September 11, 2023, a San Antonio police officer responded to the San Antonio Police Department regarding a report of sexual assault and learned that the defendant, Thornton, was sexually assaulting the child victim and providing her with methamphetamine. The victim claimed that Thornton sexually abused her numerous times over a six month to one year time period.
On September 20, 2023, a detective with the San Antonio Police Department conducted an interview with the victim. The victim said that while in San Angelo, Thornton would provide her with meth while she was babysitting for her sister while her sister was in the hospital. Thornton offered to give the victim a massage and that is when Thornton sexually assaulted her.
The victim stated that Thornton would smoke meth with her for days and abuse her while she was under the influence of the drug.
A report was made with the San Angelo Police Department, but the victim did not tell the San Angelo police Thornton had sexually assaulted her.
Thornton was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Thursday, November 23, 2023, and is currently an inmate being held on $200,000 bond.
