SAN ANGELO, TX — A crash at around 7 p.m. in the Santa Rita neighborhood involved a San Angelo Police Department Ford Interceptor that clearly was crashed into a brand new Ford Expedition. But we cannot confirm that because the investigation is ongoing.
According to police spokeswoman Sgt. Kelly Lajoie, “Two vehicles tried to occupy the same space.”
She said the police interceptor was northbound on Kenwood and the Expedition was eastbound on W. Avenue L. There is no stop sign on Avenue L but there is on Kenwood. One can draw his or her own conclusions.
The crashed interceptor did have its lights flashing when we arrived at the scene several minutes after the crash. The police officer involved in the crash may have been responding to an incident with lights and sirens.
There were no injuries and no one was transported to the hospital. Lajoie said the mystery of why the police interceptor occupied the same space with the Expedition will likely be solved tomorrow morning and police will publish a prepared statement.
We are withholding the name of the officer involved but can confirm that the driver was not SAPD Police Chief Frank Carter.
