Ticket prices to Friday night’s River Fest concert headlined by Los Palominos have been dropped to $10. Admission will be free for children 10 and younger.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at cosatx.us/tickets or at any of the City’s five outlets:

  • The McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive.
  • Blair’s Western Wear, 4230 Sherwood Way.
  • Pinkie’s Liquor Store, 1415 S. Bryant Blvd.
  • Barbed Wire and Roses, Sunset Mall, 4001 Sunset Drive.
  • Goodfellow Air Force Base, Event Center Information, Tickets & Tours Office.

A Tejano band from Uvalde, Los Palominos’ repertoir includes polka, rancheras, boleros, ballads and cumbias. Their hits include “Eres Lo Que Mas Quiero” and “Corazon De Crystal.” Los Palominos’ latest album, released last year, is “Siente El Amor.”

Gates to the RiverStage, 16 E. Avenue A, open at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. The music begins at 7 p.m.

The concert will kick off the Stripes River Fest 2014. The festivities, most of which are along the Concho River downtown, continue Saturday, Sept. 20. They include a Color Up 5K, a washer-pitching tournament, a kids court, the first Glow on the Concho and the annual Lily Fest in Civic League Park. For a full listing of events, go to cosatx.us/riverfest.

The Stripes River Fest concludes Saturday with a 7 p.m. concert at the RiverStage featuring the Judson Cole Band, Chris Brazeal, Cory Michael and Whiskey Skyline.

Let's think about this. Last year the world famous Texas Tornados played free to the public. This year they want $̶2̶4̶ ̶ ̶$̶1̶6̶ ̶ ̶$10 for a Tejano band that few gringos will likely pay to see. Then more hard-earned dough on Saturday night for a bunch of local artists. They wouldn't have to lower prices if this low-rent festival would bring some better entertainment in here.
The city is trying to avoid any capital outlay for the festival, which is never going to lead to a big success, in my opinion. If you aim low, you shoot low.
A fest is to be fun for all ages,a ticket price to get on the grounds should be used for whatever fest is supporting. Local entertainment needs a incentive to play, but unless the entertainment is really outstanding there should not be a charge. If this weekend is not a real success, the city will use this excuse to drop the whole idea. The weather might be that instrument to cause and end of an idea. It takes money to make money and unless the entertainment is really good then nothing is gained.

How are they going to charge $10 for tickets to an open air concert... when you can easily sit across the river and enjoy it for free? Where's the brains behind this operation?
The concert is free now on Saturday. Give us "local" bands a shot. We promise that you will not be disappointed in the show all 4 bands will give you. We all put our hearts and souls in performing because that's all you guys should expect from a band who is serious in what they do... I promise you won't regret it!
I'll always support local performers. I was just thinking of how much better this could be. It's like the organizers have never ventured outside of the Concho Valley. I also remember Fiesta del Concho and how they would bring in national talent. I'm getting ready to run down there. Looking forward to the show.
