HOUSTON – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, Tuesday welcomed the renaming of Fort Hood in Texas.
The fort, which had been named Confederate General John Bell Hood, will be renamed Fort Cavazos, after a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and the first Latino to reach the rank of general in the US Army.
“American military bases should not be named after those who fought against our military in order to preserve slavery and divide our nation,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We welcome this name change and call on all remnants of the Confederacy to be removed nationwide.”
He said Washington, D.C., based CAIR has repeatedly called for the removal of Confederate names, holidays, flags, statues, and symbols nationwide.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations is concerned about the history of slavery in the USA. Now that's rich, considering the Muslim slave trade that took place in Africa as well as other countries. They enslaved millions of people and it went on for hundreds of years.
