Dangerous High Speed Chase Ends Abruptly Friday

SAN ANGELO – San Angelo Police faced several tense minutes while an unidentified female suspect led them on a chase around Loop 306 that reached speeds of over 100 mph Friday evening.  

Police communications indicate officers were dispatched to Jim Bass Ford for the report of a fight or combative person.  When officers arrived, the woman was driving erratically around the parking lot.  

She reportedly left the parking lot and drove down the Loop 306 access road as Police cruisers followed.  They had their overhead lights and sirens on but the driver refused to pull over.  

The vehicle entered Loop 306 heading east and reached speeds over 100 mph as it passed under the Knickerbocker and Foster Rd. overpasses.  

Police officers in pursuit radioed that the driver took the exit on Loop 306 turning back north toward town on U.S. 87 South northbound.  The driver continued past S. Jackson St. and up N. Bryant where Police were joined by Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers.  

One of the SAPD K-9 units also joined the pursuit.  By the time the suspect vehicle reached Ave. H, the driver began to slow down according to reports.  

It appears the vehicle experienced a flat tire and speeds dropped to the 10 mph range.  The driver eventually turned into the Visitor's Center Parking lot and stopped.  Communications indicate the driver was uncooperative and officers had to convince her to exit the vehicle.  

After a shot time, an ambulance was called to the Visitor's Center to treat the driver for minor injuries.  the driver was taken into custody and will face a series of serious charges.  No other vehicles or individuals were reported injured in the chase.
