RISING STAR, TX – Parents in the small West Texas town of Rising Star are outraged after a student found a handgun in school's bathroom and they weren't notified.
According to the multiple reports, in Jan. 2023, a third grade student found a handgun near a commode in the men's restroom.
Rising Star ISD has confirmed that the child did not grab or touch the gun. Instead the student immediately went and got help.
Rising Star ISD Superintendent Robby Stuteville confirmed that the pistol was his and that he had accidentally left it in the restroom. He claims that the pistol could only have been there for 15 minutes. At Rising Star ISD two individuals are permitted to carry weapons; Stuteville and Rising Star's principal Monty Jones.
During a school board meeting on Thursday night parents were outraged that the school district did not tell them about the incident.
"If this happened a few weeks ago why are the parents just finding out?" asked one parent.
The board meeting was mainly to hear concerns from the parents. The issue will likely be addressed again at their next scheduled board meeting.

PermalinkI have no problem with your suggestion. Some people are too stupid to be allowed to carry firearms, especially in an environment filled with kids. Then, of course, there are far too many people out there too stupid to own or carry firearms in general, but laxness in legislation and enforcement allow it nonetheless.
