Police: Illegal Immigrant Leads Police on Foot Chase

An alleged illegal immigrant led San Angelo police on a Sunday afternoon foot chase after police identified him as a person of interest for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or border patrol.

According to a police spokesman, an adult man and woman were walking down Cecil Street Sunday afternoon when a San Angelo police patrol officer stopped them for walking with the flow of traffic.

While the policeman was talking to the two, the male heard the police conversation over the radio that he is being sought for an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, commonly referred to as an ICE hold. At that point, the male bolted.

He led San Angelo police on a short foot chase and was eventually found lying underneath an old vehicle near Cecil and East Harris Avenue.

He was arrested and transported to the Tom Green County Jail, along with his female companion.

The original charge was walking with the flow of traffic. Evading arrest can also be added to the rap sheet, but as of Sunday afternoon, we could not confirm the latter charge.
