McTerminated: Is McDonald's Testing a Fully Automated Restaurant in Ft. Worth with No Human Interaction?

FORT WORTH – Fast food giant McDonalds's is trying out an automated restaurant in Ft. Worth that features no human interaction between the customer and the food; machines do all the work.

According to Food blogger Foodie Munster who visited the Fort Worth location, it's the first fully automated restaurant in the U.S. where the company is testing a concept where customers can order their items through the restaurant app or on a kiosk and pick them up without any human interaction.

What could possibly go wrong?  Right?  Think Terminator.

In the viral video there was no clarification on who or how the machines were being operated, but many users online questioned the impersonal experience. Users also pointed to workers demanding higher wages as a reason for the chain to test an automated approach.

Inside the North Texas location, one kiosk machine was in the front with a counter to pick up orders and looked different from other McDonald’s.

The video from Munster shows a conveyor belt serving customers in two drive-thru lines after entering a code issued at purchase.

The move would seemingly eliminate minimum wage jobs from the worldwide fast food giant. But the concept also could eliminate errors in customer's orders.  Machines doing all the work.

What do you think?

Are the machines taking over or is this just progress?

I am old enough to prefer dealing directly with human beings.  When it comes to business my first choice its face-to-face.  My second is telephone... as in speaking to another person directly.  My third is voice mail.  My fourth is E-mail. Screw text with its impersonality.

I have not partaken of McGarbage for quite  some time anyway, but this nonsense will just drive me even farther away.

No human interaction with customers I can see being possible. But no robot is going to mop the floors and wipe down the tables and chairs, drink dispensers and toilets. That will still require human mobility. Cops should love the idea, since the bots most likely won't spit in their food.
