Huge Wireless Operator Buys Out West Central Wireless

SAN ANGELO, TX – The longtime local cell phone service provider West Central Wireless has been purchased by Verizon Wireless.

"The purpose of this letter today is to inform you that West Central Wireless has entered into a transaction with Verizon that will result in us discontinuing our mobile and fixed wireless operations in your area toward mid-2023," wrote General Manager of West Central Wireless Mike Higgins Jr. in a statement.

West Central Wireless has been in San Angelo and the surrounding area for over 35 years. They have three locations in San Angelo and 13 other locations across Texas.

"We appreciate that you continue to trust us to be your wireless communication service provider," Continued Higgins.

With the merger WCW in the coming months will be sharing promotions from Verizon.  In the statement Higgins ensures customers that current mobile and fixed wireless service, rate plans, features and bill will remain the same. Also that no action by customers is needed or required during the transition.

As for the business itself some stores, including the Robert Lee location, are being forced to close their doors.

"Customer of west central wireless I come with sad news and a broken heart. Coming January 22,2023 our Robert Lee store will close its doors," stated a Robert Lee WCW employee on social media. "I want to thank each and everyone that are/was customer. it was a pleasure helping everyone out on your phone, and internet problems."

It is unknown how many locations will be forced to close or how many employees will be out of a job. However the WCW team says that they will continue to "work hard for you now and through the transition."
