SAN ANGELO – The three way feud between the City of San Angelo, Owner of the Cactus Hotel Lee Pfluger, and outraged citizen Zane White may have reached its end on Tuesday morning during San Angelo's City Council meeting.
The feud began back months ago after White approached the city council with a complaint about the sign on top of the Cactus Hotel. At the beginning White brought the council ideas on how to fix the sign which is outdated, broken in multiple places, and no longer lights up. The council denied his request.
White continued by filing a formal complaint with the City's attorney's office. In his complaints he alleged that the sign failed to meet the requirements in the local sign ordinance. The city attorney reviewed his complaints and could not find reason to force the sign to be taken down.
The main reason for that is because of the ruling the US Supreme Court made regarding signs on private property. In the video below City Councilman Tom Thompson addresses the issue on the feud and says why the council is finished addressing the issue.
Thompson alleged that White had not only harassed city staff such as City Manager Daniel Valenzuela and the staff at the City Attorney's Office but that he was also harassing council members on their personal social media accounts.
On Aug. 15, White was removed from the City Attorney's office by San Angelo Police Officers for allegedly harassing employees while the office was closed. Following this White filed a criminal complaint against City Manager Daniel Valenzuela for abuse of power. This complaint was forwarded to the Texas Rangers.
Thompson confirmed that during the Ranger's investigation no criminal acts were found either in White's complaint or the officer's body camera footage.
To end the statement Thompson made sure that White knew the council was finished with his complaint.
"If you have anything else we wish you would make that request of the city attorney but the accusations we have here in this place is closed," said Thompson. "I'm done."

I'll be curious to see if this actually works and shuts up Zane White.

PermalinkI was born and raised in San Angelo, I have always seen that sign coming into San Angelo from a trip that is the first thing I would see, that & ASU dorms. I’ve wondered over the last years why the sign is not lite up. Y’all have been so obsessed with getting Concho Street & other areas to get people to come & I know from experience of my family visiting me asked why don’t they fix the lights. They also remember when they were. The City Council & our mayor only think of themselves & what they want don’t. I know Lee Pfluger owns the building & I can’t thank him enough for our yearly Concho River Christmas Lights so I can’t understand why he won’t fix the Cactus Lights, a big part of San Angelo. But apparently they care about themselves I have friends & family all over Texas & other states that ask about it, I tell them it’s our selfish City Council. ??
