Ignacio Martinez, 25, of San Angelo was arrested early this morning on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated after he crashed into an unoccupied patrol car in the 2600 block of College Hills Blvd.
Reports indicate that Martinez was southbound on College Hills Blvd. driving a 2008 Chrysler 300 when he collided with a marked San Angelo Police Department patrol unit. The patrol unit was being used to block southbound lanes from oncoming traffic while officers conducted an unrelated hit and run investigation that left utility lines in the roadway. The patrol unit’s emergency lights were activated at the time of the crash. The crash occurred just after 2:00 a.m
After the collision, Martinez submitted to field sobriety tests before being transported to the Tom Green County Jail. Alcohol consumption was listed as a contributing factor in the crash report. Martinez was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and not injured from the crash.
Police were initially dispatched to the area around 1:20 a.m. for the report of a single vehicle hit and run crash that occurred in the 2700 block of College Hills Blvd. During the crash investigation, police learned the driver of a 2009 Lincoln MKZ was swerving in the roadway before its driver lost control, left the roadway, and collided with a utility pole. A witness told police a male driver exited the vehicle after the collision and ran away. The driver, later identified as Michael Uranga (DOB 10-13-85) of San Angelo, was located at approximately 2:00 a.m. at a residence in the 3800 block of Inglewood Drive. Uranga appeared to be suffering from minor injuries he sustained in the crash.
Subsequent to the field investigation, Uranga was charged with Failure to stop and leave Identification Upon Striking a Fixed Object and transported to the Tom Green County Jail. Alcohol consumption was listed as a contributing factor in the crash report.
