SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Animal Shelter is having to evacuate all the animals currently there because of a health and safety maintenance issue according to information released late Wednesday.
Concho Valley PAWS is working with the City of San Angelo on the massive undertaking to move more than 250 pets out of the shelter before Thursday, September 1 and they need your help.
This is a life or death issue for these pets.
Concho Valley PAWS is working with American Pets Alive and Best Friends rescue network to find rescues to assist in receiving dogs for adoptive placement. As of now, we are not sure how many animals we will be able to place as many of our receiving agencies are full.
The animals MUST be removed from the San Angelo facility so Concho Valley PAWS is sending out a plea to our community for helpl
If you could open your home to a dog for just 10 days, the shelter will reopen after the issue is resolved and the dog can return to its kennel for local adoption or transport placement.
When you foster for Concho Valley PAWS, we provide for the animal so the foster volunteer does not incur an additional expense. We provide food, crates, beds, toys and attend to all veterinary care.
If we fail to find a safe haven for these animals, euthanasia will be considered. This would be a devastating outcome for animals and all of us here at PAWS that have worked so hard to promote life saving programs. There are beautiful, great dogs at the shelter. The majority of the population is under a year old.

So what is the health and safety maintenance issue? The animal shelter can’t properly take care of animals at the shelter? Is that similar to the street and bridge department unable to properly fix potholes on San Angelo streets? Or is it more like COSA management waiting until the first week of school to shut down major thoroughfares for road construction, causing unnecessary delays and traffic rerouting? It is almost laughable, however unfortunate, that upper management employees at the city of San Angelo is as inept as they are.
