Sweetwater PD Welcomes K-9 Unit from Mexico

 

SWEETWATER, TX – The Sweetwater Police Department announced on Tuesday the arrival of their newest K9 Dasha.

According to the SPD, on Aug. 16, Dasha, who is a 2-year-old Labrador from Mexico, specializes in narcotic searches. Handler Cpl. Traven Berrie and Dasha trained together for three weeks at Hill Country Dog Center in Pipe Creek, Texas.

District Attorney Ricky Thompson donated funds to the Sweetwater Police Department to purchase Dasha and the required training.

Corporal Berrie has five years of experience as a K9 handler. His previous K9, Stalin, served the Sweetwater Police Department for five years before passing away on February 14, 2022.

Dasha began her duties with the Sweetwater Police Department on August 15, 2022.

If that photo is indeed Dasha, it's almost certainly a Golden Retriever, not a Lab. Or perhaps a cross of the two.
