SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo City Council Tuesday approved a contract for design improvement at six of the city's most dangerous intersections during its regular meeting.
During the presentation to council, Operations Director Patrick Frerich listed six of the most dangerous intersections. This list was determined by the number of crashes at those intersections.
The following were determined to be among the most dangerous intersections in San Angelo according to the TxDOT Study.
- Sunset & Sherwood
- Sherwood & Arden
- FM388 (Ave. L) & Chadbourne
- Bryant and 29th
- Bryant and Knickerbocker
- Bryant and 19th
Other intersections considered were on Bryant at the intersections of Ave. L and Ave. N.
The Council awarded Engineering Services to Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. in an amount of $254,000 for Traffic Signal Design Plans for the six intersections.
The City was awarded $2,313,812 in construction expenses from the HSIP Grant for improvements across the six intersections.
This Task Order will take the next step and develop traffic signal design plans for the sixintersections. The plans will incorporate features and improvements to enhance the safety of the respective intersections for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
The Council approved the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant. With the HSIP grant the city will be able to improve the above intersections and make them safer.

All of these intersections have lights and protective green arrows. How about posting a police officer at these intersection and give out tickets for everyone that runs the red lights and speed thru the yellow lights. Learn to drive. Stops signs also. The city could make alot of money for other stupid decisions. How about using some of the city money to clean up the dry river bottoms so when we do get rain the run off would amount to more.
