WATCH: San Angelo Activist Pitches Splash Pad Idea to the San Angelo City Council

SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo activist pitched the idea to the council of a splash pad during the special meeting of the San Angelo City Council Thursday morning.

In the video above, local resident Steve Hampton addressed the council about problems he is seeing around the city. During his public comment he addressed not only average wages, constant littering, but the problem the city is facing with recreational water actives.

"High temperatures have been in our news and we don't have a pool that's functional." said Hampton "We could use splash pads which have been talked about for a long time. They would improve the quality of life, be a backup to the pool, and you wouldn't have to man them with lifeguards."

This comment was made during the public comment section of the agenda so no action was taken.

Since when is it the government’s responsibility to provide entertainment?
Growing up we had this really unique item that we used during the summer months.
It provided numerous hours of entertainment!
It’s called a garden hose!
We would alternate from friends house to house so not one place would have the burden of the water bill.

This is an emergency. Think of the suffering children that can’t find the local rivers or lakes. The people demand to be entertained.

I think a splash pad is excellent idea. I have to a couple in San Antonio and one in Kerrville and I have never seen an accident while we were there. They also don't have life guards on duty. The parents will just need to supervise their kids to make sure they don't get hurt. They are a ton a fun and they are free. Back in day yeah we had water hoses to play with but we didn't have the strict water restrictions we have now

Splash pad is a good idea. Watering restrictions puts Dirty Harry idea (a good one none the less) out of the question. Splash pads recycle and filter the water. We really need a water park of some sort. The city needs to do more to lure in some affordable family friendly entertainment venues to town. We have Icon, Cinemark, Ultimate Air and one stand alone bowling alley. For a city our size we need more.
