Protesters Flock in & Speakers Flock Out of NRA Convention in Houston Over Uvalde Shooting

HOUSTON- In the wake of the Robb Elementary School Shooting in Uvalde, Texas, several state representatives pulled out of speaking at the National Rifle Association Convention today in Houston.

Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick chose not to speak at the NRA Convention at the George R. Brown Convention Center today in Houston after the shooting that took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday.

About 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Salvador Ramos shot his grandmother in the face, stole her truck, crashed the vehicle near the school, entered the school and killed 19 students and 2 teachers.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said, “While a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and an NRA member, I would not want my appearance today to bring any additional pain or grief to the families and all those suffering in Uvalde.”

Joining Abbott and Patrick in cancelling is Texas Representative Dan Crenshaw and Texas Senator John Cornyn.

Barricades were set up near George R. Brown Convention Center for protests and counter-protests. As NRA members were walking in to attend the convention, protesters were chanting “All Children Matter”.

Protester Neil Aquino said, “If the city can cancel the rodeo for public health, isn’t this an issue of public safety?”

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner asked all people involved, whether they be protesters or attendees to remain peaceful but said, “There comes a point in time when people have to realize it’s disrespectful to be talking about guns when 19 kids have been killed.”

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, who made sure the police were prepped to keep both sides safe.

“We’re going to have enough officers to deal with whatever we need to deal with immediately,” Finner said.

Still attending the convention is former President Donald Trump, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, and North Carolina Lt. Gov, Mark Robinson.

Beto O’Rourke, who was escorted out of Gov. Abbott’s press conference, is expected to participate in one of the protests today.

Why didn't they flock in protest to the Uvalde Police Dept.(since they refused to enter in a timely manner) Or even the Uvalde DPS location? (where they also chose not to enter the building in a timely fashion). But EVERYONE had to protest to the NRA, who had zero restraints against the people of Uvalde during this horrific tragedy.
