Dr. Evans offered a full-throated appeal to know the Biblical God and warned against false idols. He said those who turn solely to politicians or science to solve our problems are worshipping false idols just as the Bible warns us not to do. Evans drew a standing ovation.

Throughout the event, San Angelo pianist Terry Mikeska provided music, including the accompaniment of singer Sariah Noworatzky, who performed a beautiful rendition of “How Great Thou Art.”

The National Prayer Breakfast in San Angelo is part of a national movement. Locally, Lori Francks was the head organizer of Thursday’s event. Wrey Montgomery, who has been on the prayer breakfast committee for about a decade, said this was the first breakfast since 2020. The 2021 event was canceled due to Covid. This year’s event was further challenged when forecast snow and ice forced organizers to delay the event for a week. Montgomery said he was surprised and pleased with the large attendance in spite of the challenges.
