Residence Inn Breaks Ground Over Old Graham's

The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce’s gilded shovels scraped, and dust filtered through the air at the groundbreaking for the Residence Inn on Wednesday afternoon.

The all-suites hotel will have 92 rooms for anyone wanting a spacious overnight stay, or a temporary home.

Phil Neighbors, president of the Chamber of Commerce, addressed the crowd, “As you know we’ve had a deficiency of rooms; these 92 will go a long way.”

“The rooms are laid out good for families,” explained Beth Link, TMI Hospitality Director. “It’s great for families, business travelers, or just someone who wants a little more room overnight.”

The Residence Inn is an extended stay hotel, equipped with full-sized refrigerator and kitchen and made to feel like home for those needing lodging for longer terms.

“It’s great for a relocating family,” said Link. She also praised the hotel’s services like a hot breakfast buffet and evening socials, and the ability to prepare meals in the rooms so that residents don’t have to eat out all the time. The features are intended to save families and companies money.

Link thinks San Angelo is the perfect place to add a Residence Inn, citing the friendly nature of the city: “The culture we have at Residence Inn is unusual from other hotels,” she said, “warm hospitality is what we’re about.”

The Residence Inn will be located where old Graham Central Station used to stand, and should be completed by next autumn.

When this oil boom goes bust...and it will...San Angelo will be a city of very nice, empty hotels.
Disagree - hotels are always popular and used by travelers. They may not be filled to the brim as they are now - but they'll get by. It's going to be the number of empty houses and apartments that's gonna get us.......
