San Angelo City Council to Consider Banning Archery Inside the City Limits

SAN ANGELO, TX –– San Angelo residents may no longer be allowed to shoot a bow inside the city limits as the City Council prepares to amend the current ordinance.

According to the city council agenda for Tuesday's meeting, "a recent incident involving an archery device within a residential area of the city prompted a review of Article 8.02 of the Code of Ordinances."

To be compliant with current Texas statutes and maintain public safety, the proposed amendment will regulate the firing of archery devices in the city limits.

According to the proposed change, discharging any air-powered weapon, archery device, firearm or any other weapon for any reason will be unlawful.

The following definitions are provided by the ordinance:

Air powered weapon: any BB rifle or BB gun, pellet gun, air gun, paintball gun, speargun, wrist rocket, and/or slingshot of any description.

Archery device: any bow, compound bow, longbow, crossbow, crossbow pistol, or any other device capable of firing an arrow or bolt.

Firearm: any pistol, handgun, rifle, or shotgun that fires a projectile through the combustion of gunpowder or other propellants.

Archery range: a room, place, or enclosure equipped with targets for practice with a bow, compound bow, crossbow, crossbow pistol, or any other device capable of firing an arrow or bolt.

Shooting gallery: a room, place, or enclosure wherein the firing of firearms is permitted to practice marksmanship. Each shooting gallery shall consist of only one target area.

Weapon: any air-powered weapon, archery device, firearm, or any combination thereof.

SAPD Chief Carter is expected to make the presentation.

Although the council has yet to act, should they ban archery, it will represent another knee jerk reaction to one bonehead's mistake. Just because someone did something stupid, there is no need to ban it for everyone. Just another example of cancel culture.
