SAN ANGELO, TX – Ram and Rambelles sports will be even more entertaining this year as ASU announced that beer and wine will be added to the concessions list.
According to the Angelo State Information Office the motion to sell beer and wine at ASU athletic events was approved at the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents meeting in August and will take effect once all required licensing approvals have been granted.
"We will continue our commitment to safety as we have in the past, with stadium personnel and law enforcement monitoring fan behavior. Fans have the option of whether they attend events in person, remain at a tailgate outing or stay at home and stream the competition," stated Angelo State's News & Information Specialist Tom Nurre. "However, the best way to experience Angelo State sporting events is still by attending them in person to truly experience our game-day atmosphere and environment in our outstanding venues. We want to provide an exceptional game-day environment that makes our fans want to be at our games cheering on our student-athletes."
Texas Tech began serving alcohol at sporting events in Jan. 2019 after a trend of low attendance to football games. At Angelo State, a member of the Texas Tech University System, they have experienced the similar problems.
"As we witness the changing landscape in intercollegiate athletics, and the way our fans engage in and consume event content, we strive for our university and athletics programs to evolve and provide new and additional opportunities to our loyal and dedicated fans," continued Nurre.
This will be the first time alcohol has been sold on ASU's campus since the San Angelo Colts played on the school's baseball field. Their last season in San Angelo was 2014.
