LONDON, UK – Charlie Watts, the drummer for The Rolling Stones, has died.
According to The Rolling Stones Twitter account, Watts passed away peacefully in a London hospital surrounded by his family. He was 80-years-old.
On August 4th, 2021 Charlie Watts withdrew from the USA No Filter Tour citing a need to recover from a medical procedure. A spokesman for Watts said the procedure was successful but would need time to recover.
Charlie did not want to postpone the tour any longer as it was already delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and asked Steve Jordan, a friend, to step in for the tour.
Watts has been relatively healthy through his time has the Stones’ drummer dealing with substance abuse in the 1970’s and throat cancer in 2004 but beating both.
Charlie Watts was the drummer for The Rolling Stones for over 50 years and was considered one of the greatest drummers of his generation.
